Keewaytin team at booth of annual WIllow Lake Cultural Cup

Keewaytin Tees Off as Title Sponsor of the 5th Annual Willow Lake Cultural Cup

Once a year, Willow Lake Métis Nation trades the boardroom for the fairway, and this year Keewaytin came along for the ride.

The 5th Annual Willow Lake Cultural Cup went off at Fort McMurray Golf Club on June 17th, and Keewaytin, WLMN’s new Indigenous consultancy had the honour of serving as Title Sponsor. Shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., sunshine, golf carts, and a banquet to cap it all off. Exactly the kind of day the Cultural Cup was built for.

Now in its fifth year, the Cultural Cup has become one of the most anticipated events on the Willow Lake calendar. WLMN and WLMG put it on every year as a chance to get their community and industry partners out of the office and onto the fairway together, where the conversations tend to be a lot more honest than anything that happens across a conference table. This year’s field brought out some important partners from across Northern Alberta’s energy sector, including ATB, ConocoPhillips, Cenovus, Skyway, Aluma/Safway, VIBE FX, Turning Point Surveys, Onyx, and MLT. The course was busy all day, and by the time the banquet wrapped up it was pretty clear this event has built something worth coming back to year after year.

Keewaytin held a sponsored hole on the course throughout the day, giving players a chance to stop, connect, and hear a bit about what the consultancy is all about. Turns out a golf hole is a pretty good place to have that conversation.

For Keewaytin, sponsoring the Cultural Cup was an easy yes. The consultancy was launched to share decades of dedicated experience from Willow Lake Métis Nation with Indigenous communities across the country who are navigating industrial development today. That mission is rooted in community, and so is the Cultural Cup. Every dollar raised goes directly toward WLMN’s programs and initiatives, which is exactly the kind of investment Keewaytin was built around.

Five years in, the Cultural Cup is proof that when you bring the right people together consistently, something real gets built. Keewaytin was proud to be part of that this year. See you on the course in 2027.
